Company Profile

Ferrotramviaria SpA, founded in 1937 by Conte Ugo Pasquini, the same year it acquired in Puglia by the "Société des Chemins de Fer Economiques" of Bruxelles, the tramway Bari Barletta and continued the management and speeding up the realization of modernization projects already undertaken by the Belgian company and not completed due to lack of financial resources.
The infrastructure suffered heavy damage during the Second World War. During the fifties the Ferrotramviaria gave a strong boost to the radical modernization of the line project.
The new single-track electrified track was opened in 1965, and the service carried out by modern electric trains with variable composition. Same supplementary bus service was started parallel to the railway, still in operation today.
Since then, with the development of urban centers along the line, the railroad has become more and more a reference to the local public transport scene Pugliese for the constantly growing number of commuters.
In the last forty years the company has accumulated considerable expertise in the field of rail infrastructure design and management of the relative services also thanks to the experience, as well as in Puglia, in the management of railways in Sardegna until the end of the '70s .
This capacity was realized in 2004 with the establishment of the subsidiary Ferrotramviaria Engineering, responsible company mainly to the design of infrastructure and its leadership of the construction work.
Thanks to this strategy strongly supported by shareholders (the company privately held) the Ferrotramviaria S.p.A. is now able to supply all the components of a rail transport system:
