"Paga e Via"
On the connection between the "Karol Wojtyla" International Airport and the city centre, the new "Pay and Go" service allows fast access to trains by simply bringing payment cards close to the new terminals at Bari and Airport stations.
The new ‘contactless’ payment service "Pay and Go" allows you to pay for your ticket digitally and access trains by simply bringing your payment card close to one of the dedicated turnstiles or totems at Bari and Airport stations, and in case of control, to the terminals used by the checking staff.
You can use any type of contactless card, also via card apps on smartphones or smartwatches.
You can pay for trips between Bari Centrale station and the Airport stop and vice versa, while at other stations this service is currently unavailable.
At Bari Centrale, for travelers heading to the airport, two “mini totems” are installed in the station: one next to the infopoint and the other at the head of the platforms.
The purpose of these terminals is to verify the traveler’s point of departure and to check that the card is valid and accepted by the interbank system.

A traveler wishing to use the new service is required to register by presenting their card on the designated reader; the result of the verification is shown on the screen as either an authorized or unauthorized check-in.

Repeated presentation of the card, both at departure and arrival, does not of course result in a double charge; instead, it is used to verify the journey taken, for onboard ticket inspection, and to open the exit gate.
In fact, for passengers arriving from Bari Centrale and exiting through the airport gates, the screens displayed when the gates open will show “check-out,” indicating the completion of the service process and the opening of the exit gate from the railway system.

Please note:
Each “card” allows only one passage. It is not permitted to pay for multiple people in succession; therefore, repeated presentation of the card cannot result in multiple charges.
At the airport, on the departure platform for Bari Centrale, three gates are enabled for the new service, each equipped with a contactless bank card reader and marked with appropriate signage.

To open the gate, it is sufficient to present your credit card near the reader, either physically or in its virtual form on a smartphone. The terminal reads the card and verifies its validity through a connection with the interbank system: it opens the gate if the card is genuine, enabled, and not blacklisted; otherwise, access is denied.
Below are the screens that appear on the terminal console for travelers heading to Bari:

The console is equipped with a button to request assistance in case of difficulty, with a telephone connection to the company’s customer support service.
Please note:
Each “card” allows only one passage. It is not permitted to pay for multiple people in succession; therefore, repeated presentation of the card cannot result in multiple charges.
If travellers use the 'Pay and Go' service to buy the tickets and needs to show proof of purchase onboard the train, show operational staff the last four numbers of the payment card used.
The cost of the ticket is €5.30 and it has daily validity.
No, it is an individual service to be used with the credit/debit card of which you are the holder.
Only credit cards belonging to the Eurocard–Mastercard–Visa (EMV) network and equipped with a contactless interface are accepted; they must therefore clearly display the logo of one of these networks and the contactless symbol.
In addition, payment works with Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay, and other banking services on phones, watches, or other devices.

Debit cards "only" Pagobancomat, Visa Electron, and those from different circuits like American Express and Diners are not accepted.
Note: Poste-Pay has 2 types of cards: the one with a black background with the Mastercard logo is accepted, the prepaid one with a yellow background with the Visa electron logo is not accepted, unless the traveller pays via Apple Pay or Google Pay and similar services on their mobile device.
Check that your card has not expired, is not blocked, or does not have sufficient credit.
In case of refusal of the credit card, if the terminal is normally functioning, any clarification should be requested directly by the traveller to the issuing institution of the card.
Yes, the pre-authorization amount on the respective payment circuits is as follows:
- Mastro DEBIT of €10 due to the daily debit limit that cannot exceed the pre-authorization amount, as such it is equal to double the trip to allow the same card with the same daily pre-authorization to possibly make the return trip on the same day.

- Mastercard CREDIT the pre-authorization is €5.
- VISA CREDIT the pre-authorization is €0.
For these last two circuits, regardless of the pre-authorization, you can get up to €25 per day charged in relation to the use of the card in any subsequent trips on the same day.
No, no additional cost is applied to the fare of the purchased travel ticket.
Ferrotramviaria does not store any data of the card and its holder. The handhelds of the verifiers do not show data but only the time and station where the payment was made.
The turnstile POS are certified to the security standards required for contactless payments.
From your bank account while in the future you will also be able to register and access your reserved area to check the detail of trips made and the related charges.
The accounting on the payment card occurs within 48 hours of purchase.
This service allows the management of fast and secure transactions for the payment of the ticket at the time of using the transport system, without the worry of queues and advance purchase, paying only at access to the platform for the departing train. Indeed, in full compliance with the highest standards of security and privacy, it offers a unique payment experience to all users of the service who will therefore no longer have to worry about finding the point of sale for the purchase of the travel ticket, choosing its type, and validating it before accessing the trains.
For purchases made using the contactless payment service “Paga e Via,” an invoice can be requested by sending an email to gscarini@ferrotramviaria.it. The request should include all the information and fiscal details necessary for issuing the document (first name, last name, address, tax code, any VAT number, and any SDI code), as well as the departure station, date, time, and the last four digits of the card used for the purchase.
