SIXTY YEARS SINCE THE INAUGURATION OF THE BARI–BARLETTA LINE

Sixty years ago, the “new” Bari–Barletta line was inaugurated — the first fully electrified railway line in Southern Italy.

The official ceremony, held on September 30, 1965, was attended by the President of the Council of Ministers, Hon. Aldo Moro, the Minister of Transport, Hon. Raffaele Jervolino, and the President and Chief Executive Officer of Ferrotramviaria, Eng. Giorgio Pasquini.

In his speech, after duly thanking the authorities present and all those who had contributed to the completion of the project, Pasquini paid tribute to the memory of his father, Lawyer Ugo Pasquini, “who passed away before being granted the joy and satisfaction of seeing the work completed, to which he had dedicated so many years.”

That day marked the beginning of a new era for mobility in Apulia, paving the way for a journey of innovation, technological modernization, and service integration.

Today, sixty years later, Ferrotramviaria celebrates that anniversary by renewing its commitment to service quality, technological innovation, and sustainability, values that were already central to the company’s vision at that time.

Remembering September 30, 1965, means not only honoring an important page in the history of the company and the region, but also reaffirming the bond with a tradition of progress that continues to inspire the future of the railway.
